Pressure Cooker

What is Pressure Cooker?
Pressure Cooker is a simulation designed to mimic the workplace in which individual goals sometimes conflict with team goals.  Pressure Cooker creates authentic behavior from which individuals and teams can learn about themselves to be more effective.

What is the Goal of The Business Simulation?
Each team is charged with designing, building and demonstrating a new product prototype for the company.  Teams are challenged to accomplish this process as an effective business model for the Company i.e. they must earn as much money while minimizing cost, keeping safety and quality a priority.  While there is no actual danger with colored water, the water is treated as hazardous materials so spillage and leakage will incur costs for cleanup.

What size groups can run The Business Simulation?
Participants are split into groups of 6 to 10 individuals and are given a set of instructions to create a new product prototype for the Company.

Pressure Cooker is scalable for groups up to 500 people.

What, specifically, will each team be doing?
It all begins with Teams being selected to design, build and demonstrate a special delivery system prototype, that if successful will be the Company’s biggest new product (and profit center).

Teams form, and then select key roles for each team member.  Next they must work together to come up with a design for the product.  The product must be capable of transporting colored fluids from three primary color sources as well as clear through the system, to a minimum number of designated targets, while minimizing waste.  In addition to single color transport, bonuses could be awarded for the capability of making additional colors such as orange, green and purple.  Once a clear vision and design completed, they are ready to begin the build phase.  .

The delivery system will be left to each team to build out of inventory provided to them including clear tubing, stopcocks, valves and other labware.

The teams will earn money for:

  1. Total fluid moved through system although some fluids are worth more money than others.
  2. Possible bonus revenue for mixed colors.
  3. Time to complete.
  4. Durability testing.

Individual Goals vs. Team Goals
Each participant is given an individual agenda that must be achieved while accomplishing the team task.    Other team members will not necessarily know what each individual’s agenda is and what is motivating them.

For example, one person will be judged based upon using as little inventory as possible, while another person will be judged based upon creating a stable and well built delivery system.

Another person is responsible for the quality of each specialty color produced while another is responsible for keeping waste to a bare minimum.

What is the duration of The Business Simulation?
Four to Six Hours

What is Pressure Cooker all about?
Perhaps our most flexible PERFECT Program, Pressure Cooker can be tailored to fit around almost any envisioned corporate event. Throughout the course of our Business Simulation, participants earn individual points, with all vying to become the ultimate ‘winner.’ Unbeknownst to them, however, the scores each of them is achieving are to be combined, with each point equivalent to one dollar. Each collaborative dollar earned then goes toward making an underprivileged child’s wish come true. In larger events, participants are introduced to the child whose wish they have just fulfilled, making it a truly unforgettable event for everyone involved.

How does Pressure Cooker benefit its participants?
The participants see how easily personal agendas and individual goals may conflict both with each other and with the team goals.

While this conflict may be inherent in the structure of business, individuals can choose to work as part of a team, temporarily setting aside egos while still holding each and themselves accountable.

What are the long-term benefits of Pressure Cooker?
While no guarantee can be made as different groups have different outcomes, typically groups go back to work situations with a greater respect for others perspectives as well as seeing ‘the big picture’.

This has far reaching implications and has increased trust levels as well as participants are able to see how others react authentically when placed under pressure.

What is The Business Simulation’s ‘post event facilitation’?
The ‘Post Event Facilitation’ is the portion of the program during which we focus on the lessons participants have learned and the effects the same types of behavior displayed during the program have in the workplace.

The corporate simulation is relevant because it focuses on the importance of exhibiting leadership, personal responsibility, integrity, ethics and teamwork in a highly charged, positive and emotional setting.

How can I learn more about Pressure Cooker?
Because of this program’s emotional nature and the sensitivity we have to its continuing success, program specifics are confidential and are thus not available on this website.

If you would like to learn more about our Business Simulation, please contact a Repario Team Member for program specifics. We’ll be happy to advise you on how your organization can become part of Pressure Cooker. Simply stated, there is no other team-building program available that will leave your group feeling as though they can change the world via their singular and collective efforts.

Where are Repario Programs conducted?
Repario Programs have been conducted throughout the US, Asia and in Europe. Repario Programs are not location specific and can be conducted wherever you are, or want to be! They are completely portable.
